— Eric "Maverick" HintonIn 2004, testicular cancer paid me an uninvited visit. What followed was an unexpected "snip" — and a recovery that gave me a lot of time to think about what I actually wanted to do with the back nine of my life.
The answer was golf. Specifically: getting genuinely good at golf. Not good-for-my-age good. Not good-considering-my-handicap good. Just good.
So I started filming it. Every round, every tip I try, every gear experiment, every spectacular failure and rare breakthrough — all of it on camera. Because if a one-balled, high-handicapping, gray-haired guy can break 80, maybe there's a lesson in there for everyone who's been told to just accept where they are.
The name? It was the obvious choice. 1BallGolf is the most accurate description of my situation — medically and emotionally. I'm working with what I've got. And I'm swinging for the flag every single time.
